Careful, Bend!
These words and the accompanying jingle were regularly heard on Czech radio from 1962. Over two million excited listeners sat down at the strike of one o’clock in the afternoon to listen to their radio. And they weren’t all motorists! In the second half of the 20th century, cars had an entirely different function than they do today. They had to last a lot longer than we are used to today. They often became cherished members of the family. Not everyone was able to acquire the vehicle of their dreams. Today’s generation perceive the car more as a consumer product, and are thus not surprised by their short lifespans.
